Newcastle United want Scott McTominay but may now face paying up to £50million for the Manchester United midfielder.
Newcastle are keen to add midfielders this summer with Eddie Howe seeking to keep progressing.
Whilst there have been links to holding midfielders and playmakers, the strongest rumour doesn’t really fit either mould.
Manchester United ace McTominay has been strongly linked for some time now.
However, The Sunday Mirror (09/04, p78) report that the Red Devils are now commanding a huge £50million fee.
It’s claimed that Eddie Howe believes McTominay would be an ideal signing for Newcastle this summer.
Yet with United now commanding a staggering asking price for McTominay, Newcastle may be forced to look elsewhere.
This comes after 90Min reported in March that Manchester United are looking for around £30million for McTominay, with his asking price seemingly going up.
Scott McTominay may be disappointed if Newcastle move doesn’t happen
McTominay has been in great form of late.

Four goals in two games for Scotland over the international break was an outstanding return.
McTominay then scored the opener for Manchester United in their 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday afternoon.
We’re really seeing McTominay show quality as a goalscoring, box-crashing midfielder.
That doesn’t quite suit the anchor man or playmaker-type that Newcastle are seeking, but the player seems keen.
The Telegraph reported earlier in March that McTominay is open to joining Newcastle having been impressed with them this season.
Yet with the Red Devils now demanding enormous money, McTominay’s potential move to St James’ Park could be scuppered.
That may be a real disappointment for McTominay, who could play a starring role at Newcastle but will be a squad player under Erik ten Hag.
Newcastle will be looking to negotiate this fee down and that original £30million price may be more realistic than £50million.
