Man City lead Real Madrid in race to sign £49,000-a-week England star

Manchester City are reportedly the new favourites to land Jude Bellingham this summer, with the reigning Premier League champions leading the likes of Real Madrid for the England international.

According to ESPN, Pep Guardiola’s side are the frontrunners to sign the 19-year-old wonderkid amid news this week that Liverpool have dropped their interest in Bellingham, with City and Madrid the two clubs that are most likely to sign the Borussia Dortmund star.

The £49,000-a-week midfielder is expected to become the most expensive English player ever with the Bundesliga side valuing Bellingham at £130m, a fee City could be willing to pay given their need for a central midfielder this summer and the number of first-team players who could leave the club this summer.

As per the report, Ilkay Gundogan is set to depart City at the end of the season when his contract expires, whilst the likes of Aymeric Laporte and Bernardo Silva could also leave for big transfer fees amid interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Indeed, with City now leading the race for Bellingham, Pep Guardiola’s side now have the chance to complete one of the best signings of the summer, with the England international good enough to star for the Manchester giants for many years to come.

Bellingham has shown this season that he is a complete midfielder in the truest of forms, and with City now leading the race to sign the 19-year-old, the Premier League giants could be ready to dominate English and European football for many years to come.

With Erling Haaland already a City player, adding the best young midfielder in football with Bellingham alongside the best young striker in the game feels like some sort of FIFA Career Mode fantasy, yet this could be a real case for the Manchester side this summer.

The duo thrived together at Dortmund, and under Guardiola’s coaching and playing regularly in the Premier League, there’s a good chance that City could dominate all of football with Bellingham controlling the midfield with Haaland up top to bag in the goals.
