Liverpool have landed a huge boost for their pursuit of the transfer of Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella. His Serie A side have now cut their price tag for their midfielder in half.
That is according to CalcioMercatoWeb, which claims that Inter Milan are now warming to Barella leaving San Siro. His poor recent run of form has sparked doubts about the 26-year-old’s character having also clashed with his Nerazzurri teammates in their recent matches.
Barella continues to be among the Serie A’s best and brightest central technicians from the point of his skills. But Inter Milan feel limitations are now starting to emerge over the Italy international’s attitude. Nerazzurri chiefs are also considering ways they could raise funds.

Inter Milan accept they must raise capital to fund their necessary reinforcements come the off-season. So, Premier League teams including Chelsea and Liverpool are monitoring what might come for Barella with Inter Milan now setting a minimum price tag of €50m (£44m).
Prior reports by CalcioMercatoWeb in March 2023 had claimed that Inter Milan chairman Giuseppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio would want €60-70m (£53-62m) for Barella. While Inter Live even claimed in February 2023 they want €90-100m (£80-88.5m).

A price tag of €90-100m (£80-88.5m) saw Liverpool consider part-exchanging Fabinho with Inter Milan for Barella’s transfer. But Jurgen Klopp may no longer need to send his anchor to San Siro to sign the star Jamie Carragher believes is among the best in his role in Europe.
He told CBS Sports: “I think he’s probably one of the best in Europe playing in that tucked-in, right-sided central midfield position. He’s box-to-box, he gets goals from there. We saw how outstanding he was for his national team in winning the European Championship.”

Despite his recent plight, Barella remains a pivotal player at Inter Milan to earn interest from Chelsea and Liverpool in his transfer. The 43-cap Italy ace has started in 26 of his 28 Serie A appearances this season. He has also scored five goals and registered seven assists so far.
Barella has six goals and eight assists over 38 appearances in all competitions so far this season. But Simone Inzaghi hooked him for Marcelo Brozovic after 66 minutes on Friday as the Nerazzurri drew 1-1 at Salernitana. He has not scored in Serie A since October, either.
