Crystal Palace could now hire Rafa Benitez to replace Patrick Vieira – despite the fact he is waiting for the West Ham job.
What’s the story?
Well – according to the Daily Mail – the Spaniard would like to take over at West Ham, and is waiting to see if the east Londoners decide to sack David Moyes.
Now, Benitez has been mentioned as a potential option for Crystal Palace – according to London World.
The 62-year-old has been unemployed since receiving his P45 at Everton back in January 2022, but recently told the BBC Football Daily Podcast that his family have been telling him to take another managerial role in England.
Benitez said: “I’ve had nearly 20 offers from national teams and countries, but my family say try to stay around, try to stay in England or try to stay in Europe.”
Benitez’s family are said to still live on The Wirral in Merseyside following his stints at Liverpool and Everton, which is why they are encouraging him to remain close by staying in English football.

The Madrid-born tactician boasts an impressive record in the Premier League.

Benitez has won 173 of his 359 Premier League games, drawing 86 while losing 100, as he watched his Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle and Everton sides score 543 goals and concede 350.
Crystal Palace may need to be quick as West Ham struggle
As things stand, Crystal Palace are the only managerless Premier League side, and can therefore have their pick of the available options.
However, West Ham find themselves 17th – outside of the relegation zone only on goal difference – so if Moyes cannot turn things around, he could also be sacked soon like Vieira has been.
In that scenario, the Hammers could turn to Benitez given his apparent desire to take over at the London Stadium, taking him away from Crystal Palace.
Therefore, if the south Londoners really are interested in the Spaniard, they need to make a decision quickly.
