FC Barcelona have reportedly dropped out of the race to sign rumoured Tottenham target Marcus Thuram as the La Liga side expect the forward to join Bayern Munich in the summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants have halted their interest in signing the French international amid internal beliefs that Thuram is set to sign for Bayern, with the attacker’s contract with Borussia Monchengladbach due to expire at the end of this season.
With 14 goals in all competitions, Thuram has been one of the best strikers in Germany this season, and it now appears that the Bundesliga champions, Bayern, will now be the team that win the race to sign the 25-year-old, much to the dismay of Tottenham.
According to the Times, the north London side are one of many Premier League clubs interested in signing Thuram this summer, a player VfL Wolfsburg’s sporting director once lauded as ‘world-class’. Yet perhaps to the surprise of the few, it’s Bayern who could now land the attacker.

Indeed, Barcelona’s stance on not looking to sign Thuram anymore is telling given that the Catalan side are set to mainly target free agents this summer, and with Xavi Hernandez and his team no longer interested in the striker, Bayern’s offer could be the best the Frenchman has on the table.

As for Tottenham, many supporters could be angered that Antonio Conte’s side have not pushed hard enough to sign Thuram, especially with rumours of Harry Kane leaving the club beginning to increase as we head into the summer transfer window.
Tottenham should have done better to beat Bayern to Thuram signing

Thuram’s record this season speaks for itself, and in Tottenham’s case, Spurs should have done better to beat Bayern to the striker’s signature, especially with Kane expected to finally leave north London having spent his entire career at the club.
With Thuram about to reach the peak of his career, now would have been as good a time as any for Tottenham to make a move for the France international, yet Bayern have one again beaten Spurs to the punch in a deal that could be one of their best in recent memory.
