Arsenal and Newcastle target Jonathan David admitted his dream of playing in the Premier League on Friday evening.
What’s the story?
Well – according to the Chronicle – Newcastle have been tracking the Canada international for a while now as they plot a move to secure his signature.
Elsewhere, it was Calciomercato in Italy who revealed that Arsenal want David.
Now, the Canadian has admitted he would love to play in the Premier League one day, after he leapfrogged Eden Hazard to become Lille’s all-time top goalscorer with a hat-trick in the 3-3 draw against Lyon on Friday evening.
David told Fabrizio Romano: “The furthest I can see for the moment is the next game and helping Lille get back into top four. Saturday mornings growing up in Canada were about the Premier League and La Liga.
“Premier League and La Liga are every kid’s dream.”
David has now scored 21 goals in just 29 appearances so far this season – while also providing four assists.
The Lille No.9’s treble against Lyon takes him to 53 goals in 125 appearances for the French giants, surpassing Hazard’s record of 50 in 194 outings before his move to Chelsea in 2012.
David should join Newcastle instead of Arsenal
In our view, Newcastle would be a smarter destination for David this summer than Arsenal.
Competition for attacking positions at the Emirates Stadium is intense right now, with Mikel Arteta able to choose from Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and also Gabriel Martinelli in the centre-forward department.

The latter can also operate on the left – like David – while the likes of Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Emile Smith Rowe are also available for selection.
However – at Newcastle – Eddie Howe is not blessed with as many quality attacking options, so David would surely be more likely to start on Tyneside than he would be in north London.
