Jordan Henderson admits Liverpool were not ‘ruthless enough’ in either box to get a result at Manchester City. But the Anfield club cannot dwell on their 4-1 loss for long.
The midfielder believes Jurgen Klopp’s squad must try to take whatever positives they can from the Premier League meeting. Henderson also feels it could prove costly if the Anfield natives were to dwell on the defeat at the start of a tough run of matches over eight days.
Liverpool will return to action next Tuesday at Chelsea then host table-topping Arsenal on Merseyside next Sunday. Klopp can ill afford to oversee further defeats in the race to take a top-four finish. The Reds will now face a tough task to qualify for the Champions League.

Manchester City put the game out of Liverpool’s reach in the second half
Mohamed Salah (17’) had given Liverpool the ideal start at Manchester City after breaking the deadlock. But Julian Alvarez (27’) responded soon after before Kevin De Bruyne’s (46’) goal sparked a jubilant second period for the Etihad Stadium squad sat second in the table.
Ilkay Gundogan (53’) soon began to put the game out of Liverpool’s reach and Manchester City secured the result when Jack Grealish (74’) added a fourth. The Reds rarely had much of an answer for the Citizens’ efforts and also seemed to be running out of steam late on.

Jordan Henderson issues an honest verdict on the Reds’ failings at the Etihad
Henderson admitted after losing 4-1 at Manchester City that Liverpool had not played well enough in either box. He feels the action in the two penalty areas decided the result with Klopp’s men too wasteful and Pep Guardiola’s side able to punish any mistakes they made.
Henderson told the Liverpool club website: “We weren’t ruthless enough in either our box or their box and that’s where the game [was] decided really. Overall, a really disappointing day.
“But the games come round thick and fast and you can’t be too down. You have got to try to react in the right way, try to use the positives and try to be better in the things we didn’t do well and keep going.”
Per WhoScored, Liverpool attempted just four shots at Manchester City and only directed one effort on target through Salah’s goal. In contrast, the Etihad natives attempted 17 and directed eight on target. The Reds were able to block six while Alisson recorded four saves.
