Manchester United v Newcastle United - Carabao Cup Final

Gary Neville thinks Tottenham Hotspur should explore a move for Brendan Rodgers – and could see a deal materialising.

Rodgers has today parted ways with Leicester City, leaving the club by mutual consent.

The 50-year-old has taken just one point in the last six games and Leicester find themselves in the bottom three.

The Foxes have decided it’s time for change as they attempt to stay in the Premier League.

Rodgers leaves after four years in the job but he will surely have admirers from a host of top-flight clubs.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Sunday, April 2nd (7:25pm), Gary Neville admitted that he would look into landing Rodgers if he was in charge at Tottenham.

Nevile noted that the appointment of Cristian Stellini is strange as he thought the Italian would follow Antonio Conte out of the club.

Neville though that Mauricio Pochettino or Julian Nagelsmann could be appointed in Conte’s place, but that hasn’t happened.

The Manchester United legend added that Rodgers may well have had a ‘little nod and a wink’ that he can now get the Tottenham job.

Neville admitted having no inside information on this but given that Daniel Levy has liked Rodgers for a while, he believes that this move ‘could happen’.

“Yeah, I think I would,” said Neville when asked if Tottenham should target Rodgers. “I was surprised that Stellini was given the job until the end of the season, I just thought all the staff of Conte would leave with him and I thought that Pochettino or Nagelsmann would be put in at Tottenham straight away and that’s why Daniel Levy waited his time to line up someone before Conte obviously was sacked.”

“With Brendan now mutually agreeing to leave, has it been that there has been an agreement that he’s got a little nod and a wink that he could get the Tottenham job? We don’t know and we’re speculating, and don’t think by the way that there is any inside track here from me because there absolutely isn’t, but I think you just put two and two together in football sometimes and think… that could happen, we know Daniel Levy in the past has courted Brendan Rodgers so… we don’t know, it could happen this week. He’s a good coach, Brendan Rodgers – he’s done some good jobs at Liverpool and Leicester, really good jobs, obviously at Celtic as well,” he added.

Tottenham have liked Brendan Rodgers for a while

This may seem like a manager falling upwards but Rodgers has been on the Tottenham radar for over a decade.

Spurs wanted Rodgers to join from Swansea City back in 2012, as a replacement for Harry Redknapp.

Rodgers told The Times way back in 2013 that he snubbed the move in favour of becoming Liverpool boss.

Even as recently as March, TalkSPORT reported that Tottenham are big fans of Rodgers.

It may have been time for Rodgers to leave Leicester but he largely did a great job at the King Power Stadium.

Tottenham may believe that Rodgers can get back to his best as a manager in North London, with many probably joining Neville in feeling this move is a real possibility.
