Pre-contract agreed: Fabrizio Romano claims Enner Valencia won

Aston Villa have been linked with Enner Valencia but the striker appears to be heading for Brazil with Internacional.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Valencia is signing a pre-contract agreement with the Brazilian side.

Romano claims Valencia’s deal will run until the summer of 2025 with the move almost completely agreed.

That rules out a move to Aston Villa for Valencia.

The Sunday Mirror (12/02, p73) claimed that Villa were pushing to sign Valencia on a free transfer.

Talks were allegedly underway over a one-year deal with the option of a second but those rumours have amounted to nothing.

Barcelona were also linked but Valencia is now heading back to South American with a move to Internacional.

Enner Valencia to Aston Villa always seemed strange

Villa ranks probably raised an eyebrow or two when those initial Valencia links emerged earlier this month.

Valencia had previously played in the Premier League but struggled for form at West Ham United and Everton.

10 goals in 68 games for West Ham and three goals in 23 outings for Everton meant few were expecting Valencia to get another Premier League chance.

Now 33, Valencia has been on fire for Fenerbahce in Turkey, racking up 23 goals in 30 games this season.

The striker was superb at the World Cup in Qatar as well but a move to Villa just seemed a bizarre thought.

Villa have Ollie Watkins up top and even though Danny Ings was sold in January, an exciting young talent arrived in Jhon Duran.

Add in that Cameron Archer will return to Villa this summer and a move to sign Valencia would have been a surprise.

Maybe Unai Emery wants another experienced striker after selling Ings but it seemingly won’t be Valencia as he instead prepares to head off to Brazil.
