Tim Sherwood slates

Tottenham Hotspur did just enough to get over the line in Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Brighton.

Spurs ran out 2-1 winners over Roberto De Zerbi’s charges at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It was a dramatic and controversial encounter which saw both Cristian Stellini and Roberto De Zerbi sent off.

In addition, Brighton were denied two goals and one penalty by VAR.

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris got lucky with the 55th-minute effort that was ruled out.

Danny Welbeck’s effort took a deflection off Alexis Mac Allister and went in under the £110,000-a-week keeper’s body.

Luckily for him, the deflection came off Max Allister’s arm, and VAR ruled out the visitors’ effort.

Sherwood was not impressed with what he saw from Lloris.

“It’s a poor error from Lloris,” he said on Soccer Saturday (8/4/23, 16:18).

“It’s gone right under his body. A slight deflection but there’s no pace on the ball.”

Lloris can count himself lucky on that occasion, but there have been numerous times he has made errors this season.

His overall display against Brighton was somewhat mixed, with Alasdair Gold giving him 6 out of 10.

“Made a flying save to deny Mac Allister in the first half,” he wrote on football.london.

“And may have brushed fingertips against Caicedo’s shot moments later.

“With Dunk’s powerful unmarked header the Frenchman ran out into a cluster of players and bounced back behind his own goal line.

“Flapped at some crosses.”

Match report

Son Heung-min opened the scoring against Brighton in 10th minute, sending a sensational effort into the top corner.

It was his 100th Premier League goal and he reached the milestone in style.

In addition, Son also became the first Asian player to score a century of goals in the Premier League.

However, Lewis Dunk went on to equalise for the visitors midway through the first half.

He marked his 200th Premier League appearance for Brighton with a powerful header on 34 minutes.

Amid all the drama, the second goal for Spurs came in the 79th minute.

Son Heung-min fed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg down the right, and he pulled it back for the England star.

The unmarked 29-year-old duly hammered the ball past Jason Steele to put Tottenham ahead and over the line.
