Mikel Arteta is said to be keen on bringing Ollie Watkins to Arsenal as the England international takes the Premier League by storm.
It was Rudy Galetti who claimed that the Gunners want to sign the Aston Villa No.11 this summer, with speculation intensifying after the forward scored 11 goals in his last 12 Premier League appearances.
Now – as the spotlight fixates on Watkins – old footage has resurfaced online of him making a very interesting comment about Arsenal.
What’s the story?
Well, if Edu does submit a bid for Watkins this summer, a move could be on.
Speaking at the London Football Awards back in 2020 while playing for Brentford, the 27-year-old revealed that it is his dream to play for Arsenal.
Watkins clearly didn’t expect himself to become one of the Premier League’s best strikers at the time of these comments, as he felt his dream was a “long shot”.
The Sutton & Croydon Guardian quoted the Englishman as saying: “That’s the dream to play for Arsenal one day, but you know, it’s a long shot.”

Now, Watkins could see his dream become reality.
The Aston Villa No.11 now has 15 goals in all competitions this season after finding a new lease of life under Unai Emery, which has seemingly caught the eye of Arteta.
Ollie Watkins would be a good fit for Arsenal
We have previously written about how Watkins may not become an immediate starter for Arsenal if he does join this summer, due to the fact Arteta already has Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun on his hands.
However – if a move materialises regardless – we feel Watkins would be a good fit for Arsenal whenever he makes it out onto the pitch.

The Torquay-born striker works tirelessly to run the channels and create space for his teammates, dragging defenders around as his pace causes chaos for opponents.
Even if Watkins himself fails to score, we can see his movement becoming a blessing for the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli at Arsenal, as plenty of space would be created for the pair.
Be sure to keep an eye on the situation, as Arsenal could make a bid this summer.
