Harry Redknapp has issued his support for Fikayo Tomori as Tottenham Hotspur target the AC Milan star’s transfer. He has also shared why Gareth Southgate ignores him for England.
The Three Lions boss has seldom favoured the 25-year-old since handing Tomori his senior debut in November 2019. He also left the centre-half at home as England flew to Qatar for the World Cup in November 2022. Even though Tomori featured in his plans in September.
Southgate named Tomori in his England squad for UEFA Nations League ties with Italy and Germany. Yet he only included the Alberta, Canada-born enforcer as an unused substitute against the Azzurri. Tomori had also faced Italy last June for just his third international cap.

Fikayo Tomori’s AC Milan performances have Tottenham interested in his transfer
Tomori is a mainstay of the AC Milan backline, though, and his efforts at San Siro now have Tottenham interested in his transfer. CalcioMercatoWeb reports that Spurs are exploring a move for the defender irrespective of Antonio Conte’s future at the helm in north London.
Tottenham believe the former Chelsea enforcer has a lot to offer next season regardless of who their manager is. So much so, in fact, that Spurs have considered using Emerson Royal in part exchange. But the Rossoneri will want more for Tomori than the Brazilian is worth.

AC Milan paid Chelsea £25m, plus £5m in add-ons, for Tomori in June 2021 after his initial loan transfer. The Rossoneri also renewed his contract until June 2027 in August 2022 with a £76k-a-week deal. Tottenham paid Barcelona £26m to obtain Royal back in August 2021.

Harry Redknapp believes Fikayo Tomori is good enough to ‘play anywhere’
Tomori missed out on a seat on England’s plane to Qatar as Southgate took Harry Maguire, John Stones, Eric Dier, Conor Coady and Ben White instead. He also started Kyle Walker as a centre-half against Italy in the Nations League at San Siro ahead of Tomori in September.
But ex-Tottenham boss Redknapp feels Tomori is good enough to play for any team as his former club targets a transfer with AC Milan. He also feels the defender’s issues gaining a greater role for England is just down to Southgate rewarding his previous top performers.
“Southgate simply prefers players he’s worked with for a long time – like Maguire and Stones,” Redknapp told TuttoMercatoWEB. “Players he trusts and consequently Tomori has no space. But he’s a player who could play anywhere.”
