Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that defender Emerson Royal will have to undergo surgery on a knee injury.
The Spurs full-back suffered a meniscus injury to his left knee while on international duty with Brazil last week.
Emerson picked up the problem during stoppage time at the end of the 2-1 friendly loss to Morocco in Tangier.

Tottenham confirmed that the 24-year-old will undergo surgery before starting rehabilitation with the club’s medical staff.
And Pedro Porro has taken to Twitter to wish Emerson well, replying to the club’s official statement post.
“Good recovery, bro,” he wrote. “Let’s fight for you!”
Could Emerson be back for Tottenham before the season ends?
Emerson has struggled at times for Spurs since his move from Barcelona in September 2021.
This led Antonio Conte to pursue a new right wing-back this year, duly signing Porro from Sporting CP.
Since the Spaniard joined Tottenham, Emerson’s form has picked up.
Likewise, Porro shook off a difficult debut to show he has what it takes to impress at Spurs.

With Emerson now undergoing surgery, the 23-year-old is likely to get much more game time in the coming weeks.
Tottenham haven’t explicitly mentioned Emerson is out for the season, which is a bit of a silver lining.
Hopefully we’ll see him back in action before the campaign is out.
With Spurs pushing for a top-four finish, they’ll need all the players and strength in depth available to them.
At the same time, Tottenham now find themselves depleted in an area that was previously well-stocked.
Spurs went into 2023 with Royal, Matt Doherty and Djed Spence in their ranks.
Doherty was allowed to leave permanently for Atletico Madrid, while Spence is out on loan.
Let’s hope Conte’s decision on his right wing-backs won’t come back to haunt Spurs.
