Julian Nagelsmann has suddenly emerged as a leading candidate to replace Antonio Conte at Tottenham.
The German – who is known for his advanced tactical ideas – surprisingly lost his job at Bayern Munich on Thursday, which put Spurs on red alert.
Daniel Levy – according to the Telegraph – is keen to speak to Nagelsmann, who Sky Sports claim is open to holding talks with the north Londoners.
In that respect, let’s see how Tottenham‘s XI could look if the 35-year-old does arrive in N17…
How Tottenham XI could look under Julian Nagelsmann
Well, Nagelsmann‘s final game at Bayern Munich saw him adopt a unique 3-1-4-2 formation.
It involved Joao Cancelo and Alphonso Davies operating as wingers, high up the pitch and away from Bayern Munich’s three central defenders in Matthijs de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano and Benjamin Pavard.
Joshua Kimmich sat ahead of the trio in a No.6 role.
Nagelsmann also tends to adopt a 4-2-3-1 formation, but given the fairly normal nature of that system, let’s see how he could line up if he brings the more advanced 3-1-4-2 to Spurs.

As you can see, this shape would not allow for two right-sided players, so questions would be asked as to how Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski both fit into the XI.

In our view – due to his vast technical ability – Porro can replicate the job of Kimmich, with Kulusevski pushed high up in a similar role to Cancelo at Bayern Munich.
Harry Kane and Heung-min Son would naturally take up the two central areas in attack.
Nagelsmann used two attack-minded players in central midfield ahead of Kimmich in his final game for Bayern Munich, with Leon Goretzka and the Leroy Sane, who is naturally a forward, deployed in that area.
Therefore, we doubt Nagelsmann will opt to start Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg there.

Instead, we feel Rodrigo Bentancur – once he recovers from injury – and Yves Bissouma could start in the two central midfield areas, given the fact they are more agile and attacking than the Dane, but can also get stuck in defensively.
In fact, we feel Hojbjerg could even be used as a central defender if Nagelsmann takes over now, as the German likes those at the back to be comfortable on the ball, and Spurs do not boast great options in that department.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Nagelsmann is expected to hold talks with Levy soon.
