Leeds United v Brighton & Hove Albion - Premier League

Michael Owen says Jack Harrison was fouled by Solly March following his own goal during Leeds United’s 2-2 draw against Brighton on Saturday at Elland Road.

The former Premier League striker added that ‘not many people will agree with me’, but they felt that March clipped the back of Harrison’s leg and that’s why he rifled the ball into the back of his own net from a few yards out.

At that time, Leeds fell 2-1 behind to Roberto De Zerbi’s free-scoring side, before Harrison himself made amends by curling in a stunning effort to rescue a point for his relegation-threatened team.

In the end, Javi Gracia would have had mixed feelings about the game. On one hand, it’s a much-needed point and a better attacking display than previous games.

But, on the other, there are still issues at the back and they are still sitting in the Premier League’s relegation zone.

Nonetheless, whilst some debated whether it was Harrison’s own goal or whether March got something on it for those FPL players and their points, Michael Owen had a different take altogether, as he told Premier League Productions (11/03/23 at 5:15 pm).

On Harrison’s own goal: “Personally, I think this is a foul. But not many people are going to agree with me,” said Owen about the £11 million player. “I think he is about to clear that, I really do and I think he gets his foot clipped, then he ends up spooning into his own net.

“There is no way on earth he can kick that into his own net without it being fouled in the process.”

LEEDS HEADING TOWARDS A FINAL-DAY SHOOTOUT

If Leeds want to avoid another final-day shootout in their relegation battle, then they need to get out of their current mess during the next four weeks, or else, they are in trouble.

From 12th-placed Crystal Palace to bottom-of-the-table Southampton, all of these teams are in a relegation fight.

It would be beyond crazy, heart-stopping and dramatic if most of these sides are facing the drop during the final week of the Premier League season.

Leeds had to travel to Brentford last season, in order to survive, and those fans don’t want to face that same scenario because they face Harry Kane’s Tottenham Hotspur on the final day this time around.
