‘No intention’: Chris Sutton makes Antonio Conte and Harry Kane claim

Chris Sutton has said on The Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 Live that Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte would play star striker Harry Kane even if he got a head injury.

The former Chelsea striker made the controversial comments about Conte and Kane while discussing the concussion substitute protocol.

As reported by The Daily Mail, rulemakers IFAB have refused the Premier League’s latest attempt to trial temporary concussion substitutes next season.

IFAB want to continue with the ongoing trials of permanent concussion subs.

BBC Sport pundit Sutton is not happy with the decision and has used the example of Conte and Kane at Tottenham to make his point.

The former striker believes that managers like Conte will not want to take their star players off the pitch as long as the current protocol is in place.

Chris Sutton on Tottenham Hotspur duo Antonio Conte and Harry Kane

Sutton said: “I have used this before. If Harry Kane goes down with a head injury after 10 minutes for Tottenham, Antonio Conte will send one of his medical staff.

“He will have no intention of Harry Kane coming off the pitch. He will want to leave him on.

“Why? Because he is their best source of goals, their best chance of winning a game.

“This is nothing against Antonio Conte, but the fact of the matter is managers do leave players on.”

Controversial claim

Now, this is quite a controversial claim from Chris Sutton.

The BBC Sport pundit for sure cannot say what Antonio Conte would do if Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane did get a head injury.

If the injury is serious, then we do not think that Conte will continue to play him.

Remember, Conte himself was a player, and the Italian will be aware of the damage a serious injury could cause.
