Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Tottenham Hotspur to secure a ‘behind-the-scenes’ transfer for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, before Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United nab him.
The former Aston Villa striker thinks managerless Tottenham ‘need a number ten’, but he feels, in the summer, a team like Newcastle United will ‘come out of nowhere’ for the player, so they should move right now.
James Maddison will have 12 months left to run on his current Leicester contract in the summer and the signs suggest he will head for the exit door – Jermaine Jenas is certainly hoping his former side go ‘all out’ for the £60m star.

Given that Youri Tielemans is heading for a free, the Foxes are fighting for survival right now and they won’t be in Europe next season, then there’s isn’t much reason for Maddison to stay.
That desire to leave will only grow when the teams in Europe coming knocking, especially those in the Champions League, which Spurs and Newcastle are currently fighting for.
Nonetheless, amid the mess at Spurs, Agbonlahor thinks it’s high time they swopped in for Maddison before anybody else, as he told talkSPORT (30/03/23 at 8:15 am).
“If I am Spurs, then I am getting a Maddison deal done behind-the-scenes now,” said Agbonlahor. “So, in the summer, Maddison comes in because Newcastle will come out of nowhere and say ‘alright then, we aren’t wasting no time’.

MADDISON SHOULD BE PATIENT
The England international should keep his cards close to his chest and wave away any sort of approach from a team like Spurs given the mess they are in now.
Imagien if Maddison did listen to Agbonlahor’s advice and signed for the London club now?!
By the time he lands on the doorstep of Hotspur Way, not only could Harry Kane be out of the door, but there could be a manager in the dugout that doesn’t suit his style of play.
