First photo of Laurence Fishburne as Doc Rivers in The Sterling Affairs revealed and fans can’t get over the bizarre casting choices. Blake Griffin, in particular, was causing some confused comments.
Last year reports emerged that FX was ordering a limited TV series based on the ESPN 30 for 30 podcast The Sterling Affairs.
According to reports, the six-episode series tells the behind the scenes story of Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne) and the Los Angeles Clippers’ quest to bring a championship to one of the historically worst franchises in all of sports.
This is set amidst the backdrop of the fall of former Clippers team owner Donald Sterling. Sterling was forced to sell the franchise after racist remarks to a former girlfriend were leaked.

First look at Laurence Fishburne as Doc Rivers in The Sterling Affairs
It’s been almost a year since the show was announced. However, it’s only now we’re getting our first look at it. Photos of Laurence Fishburne playing former Clippers head coach Doc Rivers recently circulated on social media.
The image shows Fishburne sat on the side-lines surrounded by Sterling’s mistress V. Stiviano (played by Cleopatra Coleman) and various actors portraying Clippers players from during that time:
NBA fans are cooking the casting choices in The Sterling Affairs
The Clippers players in the photo are supposed to be Chris Paul (J. Alphonse Nicholson), Blake Griffin (Austin Scott), D’Andre Jordan (Sheldon “Shel” Bailey), and Matt Barnes (Sarunas J. Jackson).
Various tweets shared the casting choices with their respective, real-life personas, which also includes Charlie McElveen playing JJ Redick:
However, the overwhelming reaction online was confusion as many of the casting choices look nothing like the person they’re supposed to be.

The casting choice of Blake Griffin in particular was trolled by fans, with some initially thinking the photo was a parody given how little it looks like the former Clippers man.
‘Casting directors get paid all that money to come up with s*** like this’, one person joked.
‘This s*** gotta be a parody’, another remarked.
‘Naaah, that can’t be Blake Griffin in the back,’ a third added.
‘This gotta be the worst casting of all time’, a fourth concluded.
To be fair to the casting directors it’s probably pretty hard to find actors who look exactly like the players they’re supposed to be. Still, some of these choices are a little strange.
The Sterling Affairs is written by Gina Welch based on podcast reported and hosted by Ramona Shelburne. Shelburne is also executive producing the show.
There’s no release date as yet but you’d imagine a lot of curious NBA fans will be tuning in when it does premiere.
