My Hero Academia season 7 has been confirmed to be in production, but what date could the iconic anime potentially release worldwide?
The end of any anime slate can be bittersweet for fans because not only do we have to say goodbye to our favorite series, but there comes a certain amount of anxiety when it comes to renewals.
The good news for fans of the My Hero Academia franchise is that season 7 has been confirmed to be in production, even though the season 6 finale is still a matter of hours away from premiering.
Whilst fans will be delighted with confirmation of season 7, many are curious as to what date the My Hero Academia anime could potentially release worldwide – here is everything that you need to know.
My Hero Academia season 7 confirmed to be in the works
Fans of My Hero Academia can celebrate the upcoming finale knowing that season 7 has just been confirmed to be in production in Weekly Shonen Jump issue #17 by Nobuhiko Okamoto, voice actor for Katsuki Bakugo.
It was always going to be a matter of time before My Hero Academia was publicly renewed for a seventh season. Not only is the anime one of the most popular series in the world, but there is plenty of source material from the ongoing manga still left to adapt.
Season 6 episode 25 is expected to adapt up until manga volume 33 chapter 328, which was serialized back in October 2021 and featured as the final chapter of volume 33.
The good news is that ahead of the season 6 finale, 382 chapters across 37 volumes of the original manga series have been published in Japan. This means that within the next few months, there will be enough source material available for Studio Bones to start animating the seventh season in full.
The next story arc will be the ‘Star and Stripe Arc’ with the Fandom page featuring the following preview:
“With Tomura Shigaraki’s body nearly complete, All Might requests immediate aid from the foreign Heroes. Enter America’s No. 1 Hero, Star and Stripe, arriving to help defeat the villain. But “Tomura” is prepared to fight back, and do anything to accomplish All For One’s next goal: stealing her Quirk, New Order.”
Similarly, the My Hero Academia anime is undoubtedly popular enough to merit another TV production; with season 6 actually being the highest-rated season of the series to date on MyAnimeList.
The revival of the series’ popularity has also seen a significant boost to manga sales (a key factor in most modern anime renewals), with now more than 85 million copies in circulation.
More details are expected to be shared at My Hero Academia’s Anime Japan 2023 panel, set to take place on Sunday, March 26.
What date could My Hero Academia season 7 release?
Whilst My Hero Academia season 7 has been confirmed to be in development, a targeted release date has not been shared by Studio Bones; however, we can use the production cycle from previous seasons to make an early prediction.
Season 6 was publicly revealed shortly after the season 5 finale back in September 2021, with the anime returning to our screens with another 25-episode, split-cour broadcast in October 2022.
Assuming that Studio Bones will be looking to maintain this 12-month production cycle, an early prediction would be for My Hero Academia season 7 to release in April 2024 as part of the Spring slate (specifically Saturday, April 6, 2024).
One factor that could potentially push the premiere of season 7 into July 2024 on the Summer slate, would be if Bones decided to wait until all available source material was available.
Season 6 has covered roughly 70 chapters of the original manga, but only 55 chapters are currently available to start animating from. Consequently, if Studio Bones opted to wait until all 70 chapters were available, they will have to wait for approximately another 15 weeks – the My Hero Academia manga releases new chapters weekly.
Overall, fans should expect My Hero Academia to release in either April or July 2024, but thankfully we should also expect another 25-episode, two-cour production.
If you want to catch up on the original manga before the anime returns, arguably the best way to read the series in English is via Viz Media and Manga Plus – which offer access to all published chapters for just $2.99 a month.
Alternatively, 36 of the 37 volumes have already been published in English; available from countless outlets worldwide including Amazon, Waterstones, Google Play, and Apple iBooks.
