Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has posted on Twitter that Arsenal need William Saliba ‘more than ever’ to win the Premier League title after news broke that he could be out of action for ‘several weeks’.
The Arsenal centre-back hobbled off in the first half of his side’s marathon and drama-filled Europa League last-16 defeat to Sporting Lisbon on Thursday night.
Well, it’s not great news for the Arsenal faithful in their hunt to win the Premier League title, because this could also favour Liverpool after the international break.
The one big positive is that the international break is around the corner, so it will allow Saliba the chance to rest and recover for the absolute crunch games for Mikel Arteta’s side.
One of them will be a dreaded trip to Anfield on April 9, and if Saliba isn’t back by then, well, the blood pressure levels of those in north London will go up a few levels and Jurgen Klopp’s side, in their quest to finish in the Champions League places, will have a lesser-quality backline to target.
Only 12 months ago, Rob Holding had to come in to deputise at the back, including his unforgeable match at Tottenham, where he was sent off, and fans will be hoping he has changed drastically.
Nonetheless, when reacting to the worrying news regarding Saliba, this is what Enrique had to say about the £27 million star (Sky Sports), as he posted on social media.
“Hopefully, the international break will help him get back as soon as possible because Arsenal really need him, more than ever, to win the Premier League title,” said Enrique

OUTSTANDING SEASON FOR SALIBA
When Arteta first walked through the doors, he walked into a mess and one of the club’s biggest problems was their brittle, error-prone and unreliable defence.
What was even worse is that senior players from David Luiz to Shkodran Mustafi were the ones at the heart of the issues, hence the call from fans to give rising star and youngster, William Saliba, a shot, but Arteta ignored.
Well, the manner in which Arteta has handled the young Frenchman has been outstanding and it has resulted in him nurturing into a top-class defender that isn’t far away from putting a Premier League winner’s medal around his neck in his first full season in England’s top-flight.
