MIRANDA Cosgrove has recounted her alarming stalker incident from 2016 when a man fatally shot himself in her yard.
As Richard Gadd’s Netflix miniseries Baby Reindeer is gaining popularity, there are similarities between the drama and Miranda’s story.
The Nickelodeon star opened up about the terrifying incident which happened eight years ago.
A man who had been stalking the iCarly star lit himself on fire and fatally shot himself in her front yard in Los Angeles, California.
She wasn’t home at the time of the incident but returned to discover the crime scene.
The man had previously attempted to shoot at a woman who looked a lot like Miranda when the third party drove past the actress’s property.
Years later, Miranda told Bustle that she met the third-party victim.
OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY
“This girl came up to me, and she was like, ‘I didn’t know if I should tell you this here or how to say this, but I’m actually the girl that was at your house that got shot at,’” Miranda told the outlet.
“She seemed like she processes things in a similar way that I do,” she continued.
“She said she’d just gone through a breakup the night before and was going to her friend’s house because she was so distraught.
“When they brought her into the Hollywood Police Station to ask what he looked like and how it all happened, the detectives were like, ‘Start from the very beginning.
“‘What happened?’
“And she was like, ‘Well, he broke up with me last night,’ and she started telling them all about the breakup,” the iCarly actress concluded.
Miranda said she’s happy everyone has the space to be able to make light of the situation now, but that there has still been residual trauma.
MOVING FORWARD
She still lives in the same property and admits she doesn’t always feel safe in the space.
“For two years after it happened, I wouldn’t really stay there.
“Then I got into a relationship and because that person was there with me, I was less scared.
“But I don’t really like being there on my own that much.”
Baby Reindeer released on Netflix on April 11, 2024.
The mini-series is about a bartender facing a female stalker staring Richard Gadd – and it’s based off a true story from the actor’s real life.
With all of the buzz generated around the show, Miranda applauded Richard’s ability to act and relive his own trauma.
“I feel like if that were me, having to go back through your most terrible experience and then try to act them out, that’d be so hard,” she commented.
CAREER MOVES
Recently, Miranda starred in Mother of the Bride, a Netflix series with Brooke Shields.
Beyond promoting her films and work with Despicable Me and iCarly, she’s been living a quiet life on social media.
iCarly has been canceled after a season 3 cliffhanger finale.
“I’d love to be able to wrap up the story in some way,” she recently told Entertainment Tonight.
“Maybe, hopefully, someday, we’ll still do it,” Miranda confessed.
