Is Jason David Frank in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always? HITC investigates.
There are some shows that our childhoods just wouldn’t have been the same without. They were something special, and many nineties kids will wholeheartedly agree that growing up just wouldn’t have been complete without Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Created by Haim Saban and Shuki Levy, the iconic superhero series began premiering on Fox Kids all the way back in August 1993 and immediately struck a chord with young audiences who wanted to seek out the action figures and imagine their own scenarios with the rangers taking action. Now, Netflix has gifted us with a pure blast of nostalgia.
The trailer for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always teases a 30th-anniversary special in which original actors who played the titular rangers in the original will reprise their roles.
You’ll see a number of them on screen, from David Yost to Barbara Goodson. On the other hand, you’ll notice that the face of Jason David Frank‘s Tommy Oliver is notably absent. With that in mind, is Jason David Frank in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once And Always?
Is Jason David Frank in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always?
No, Jason David Frank doesn’t star in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always and you won’t find him reprising his iconic role in the anniversary special.
The actor tragically passed away at the age of 49 in 2022.
Although the Once And Always project film has already been filmed prior to his passing, he addressed during a Facebook live stream that he would not be starring, instead focusing on the forthcoming movie Legend Of The White Dragon.
The Green – and later White – Ranger that Jason played in the series can be seen in the recently unveiled trailer. However, it’s not Jason under the suit, so it’s likely that the part was recast following Jason’s hesitance to come aboard.
For a generation that grew up on shows on Nickelodeon and Fox Kids etc., it’s sure to be a must-see all the same.
‘I miss Jason David Frank so much’
Following the trailer, a number of fans have shared their further thoughts on the loss of Jason via Twitter.

A tribute has been shared
Despite learning that we won’t see Jason back in the suit for Once & Always, a press release has already paid respects to the late actor with an official statement:
“Hasbro, eOne and Power Rangers are honored to dedicate Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always to late Mighty Morphin cast members Thuy Trang and Jason David Frank.”
Thuy played Trini Kwan, the first Yellow Ranger in the show, but she sadly passed away in September 2001.
It’s likely that these respects will extend to a dedication in the special itself.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always will premiere on Netflix on Wednesday, April 19th 2023.
