Donovan Mitchell has established himself as an elite guard in the NBA since being drafted in 2017.
The 2018 Slam Dunk Contest winner is unquestionably one of the best guards in the league, capable of getting a bucket at any given moment.
He recently had a game for the ages, scoring 71 points for the Cleveland Cavaliers in a 145-134 overtime win vs the Bulls. It is the most amount points scored by a single player in a game since Kobe Bryant’s 81 points vs the Raptors in 2006.
Donavan Mitchell’s parents: His father, Donovan Sr is close with the Mets organization
Mitchell was born on 7 September 1996 to parents Donovan Sr and Nicole in Elmsford, New York.
Donovan Sr is the New York Mets director of player relations and was a former Minor League Baseball player.
He is also in charge of community enlargement with the Mets.
He now serves as a New York Mets executive in the baseball operations department as the director of player relations and community enlargement.
Donovan Jr spent most of his childhood in and around Major League Baseball locker rooms in New York. It was during this time when he became comfortable with media attention and being around the press.

Donovan Mitchell’s mom is of Panamanian descent
Donovan Mitchell’s mother is Nicole Mitchell, who is of Panamanian descent. She is also a teacher.
Donovan and his mother have an extremely close relationship.
In a piece for the Players’ Tribune, the mother-son duo spoke candidly about their experiences together.

Donovan even joked that his mother used to ‘put him on a leash’ because of his boundless energy as a child.
Mitchell also wrote that his mother was skeptical the NBA was a viable career path for him, believing the odds were against him.
She wrote in the piece that she encouraged him to focus on his studies and be hopeful of a scholarship to play college basketball.
In 2020, Nicole and Donovan Mitchell also combined to help give back to the community.
On World Teachers Day, Donovan and Nicole Mitchell surprised two pre-schools – one in Connecticut and one in the Bronx – by giving gifts.
The schools received the All-Star guard’s new Crayola-inspired DON Issue #2 sneakers as well as a gift pack from Crayola.
“Teachers, as we all know, are so underrated, underpaid,” Nicole Mitchell said during an interview on the Today Show.
“Having taught through the pandemic for three months, it was challenging but we made it happen. Now these teachers are teaching the full year with this cloud over their head.”
He is also extremely close with sister, Jordan Mitchell
Donovan also has a sister, Jordan Mitchell.
She gave an interview a few years ago about her brother, and can also be found on Instagram. In November 2022, Donovan shared a photo with his sister and mom with the caption: ‘Thankful’.
Jordan Mitchell has more than 30k followers and is a keen fan of lacrosse.
