Jermaine Beckford has praised the impact Callum Wilson and Anthony Gordon had for Newcastle United at Brentford. Eddie Howe introduced them as half-time substitutes.
Ivan Toney (45’+1) put the Bees 1-0 ahead right before the break at the Gtech Community Stadium this Saturday. The striker converted his second penalty of the game to break the deadlock. But David Raya’s (54’) own goal and Alexander Isak’s (61’) hit flipped the script.
Howe wasted no time in responding to Toney’s goal by introducing Wilson and Gordon for Sean Longstaff and Jacob Murphy. The changes made the world of difference as Newcastle came out of the break an improved side. Joelinton would soon force the equaliser, as well.

Raya could only turn Joelinton’s effort into his own net and was helpless to stop Isak from adding a second. The Sweden striker produced a majestic finish to find the top right corner of Raya’s net. He has now scored five goals in the 23-year-old’s last five top-flight matches.
Wilson thought he had given Newcastle a 3-1 lead at Brentford in the 65th minute, as well. But the striker’s effort did not count as VAR Darren England spotted a rather questionable handball. The official judged the ball made sufficient contact with the 31-year-old’s elbow.

The striker made a charging run down the left flank to find Isak waiting in the box to score. While Gordon and Wilson combined well with Elliot Anderson in the closing stages to cap the two super-substitutes’ showings for Newcastle that impressed Beckford at Brentford.
“What we’ve seen from Newcastle today, they’re not shy,” Beckford said on the BBC’s Final Score. They’re not feeling any pressure. They look really good. Callum Wilson and Anthony Gordon have made a massive difference. They’ve been amazing.”
