Raphael Honigstein has debunked the possibility that new Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel wants to sign Liverpool transfer target Mason Mount from Chelsea in the summer.
The German journalist stated that Thomas Tuchel has got bigger fish to fry than to think about signing Mason Mount, including sorting out a jam-packed midfield, Sadio Mane’s struggles and meeting the rest of his squad as they return from the international break.
As domestic football halted, Bayern Munich decided to sack Julian Nagelsmann as head coach and bring in former Chelsea and PSG coach, Thomas Tuchel.

Before the European Cup-winning manager could get warm in his seat at the Allianz Arena, the transfer rumour mill suggested that he is keen on bringing Mount to German shores.
The England international is stalling on a new contract at Stamford Bridge, with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool keen to snap him up in the summer, if that issue isn’t resolved. The Athletic stated on March 30 2023 that the interest is ‘serious’.
But with Bayern also seemingly in the wings, could Mount be persuaded to head abroad, well, that was shut down by German football expert Honigstein on talkSPORT, which is encouraging for those at Anfield.
“Mason Mount, I would be surprised, if Thomas Tuchel having been in the job for 48 hours, has gone to Bayern and said ‘I want Mason Mount next season’,” said Honigstein. “He might like the player. He might have done something privately to encourage the view that Mason Mount might get an offer from Bayern.

“But knowing how Tuchel works. It’s the last thing he would have done and that’s asking for a player in the summer already, so I would take that with a grain of salt, personally.
“Bayern also have too many players in attacking midfield positions. You have seen Sadio Mane is really struggling, especially since coming back from injury. I think Tuchel will have to take a very clear-eyed view of the situation and I don’t think he will be making any recommendations to the board, after not even having met half of the players.
“I think that story is convenient, for some people shall we say (agent leak re contract talks with Chelsea). It doesn’t hurt to be linked with Bayern. But I am sure Tuchel loves him and I am not sure Bayern’s offer will be in the post, anytime soon.”

MOUNT SHOULD LOOK TO LEAVE
There isn’t any clear direction at Stamford Bridge, and in truth, anything can happen during these coming months, including Graham Potter getting the boot.
With Euro 2024 around the corner, the last thing Mount needs is to be playing for a club that can probably field three starting XI of international stars.
He needs regular game time, to take his game to the next level, and unfortunately, there are too many doubts and question marks over Chelsea for him to do that – Gabby Agbonlahor has called for the ‘top’ midfielder to also leave.
