THE ex partner of Cosby Show star Malcolm-Jamal Warner has broken her silence following the actor’s drowning death in Costa Rica.
More gutwrenching details continue to emerge following the tragedy that unfolded on Sunday.
Warner, 54, was swept out by a current off the coast of Cocles while on vacation with his family.
His cause of death was ruled asphyxiation by submersion.
A second man was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition.
It’s since emerged that the man was among those trying to save Warner, as reported by People.
Locals told The U.S. Sun how the conditions in the beach area could be challenging.
One noted how there were heavy rains in the area over the weekend, making swimming tricky.
Caribbean Guard officials revealed there were no lifeguards on the beach at the time of Warner’s accidental drowning.
Tributes continue to be paid to Warner after he was identified as the victim of the drowning.
Ex-girlfriend Regina King, an Oscar winner, shared a throwback snap of the star on a motorbike.
“Some people leave a lasting imprint, not just for who they were but for the energy they carried,” she wrote on Instagram.
“Rest easy Malcolm-Jamal Warner.”
King and Warner first met during his time on the Cosby Show.
Warner played Theo Huxtable – the son of Bill Cosby’s character Cliff – in the popular 1980s sitcom – and appeared in almost 200 episodes of the show.
King and Warner dated between 2011 and 2013.
In 2011, Warner said the idea of keeping their relationship private was something “special” to him.
“I think Regina and I are both of the philosophy that we keep our private lives private,” he told Bet.
“All relationships go through all kinds of peaks and valleys.
“We don’t need the rest of the world in our Kool-Aid.
“So we like to protect what we have because it’s very special and very precious.”
Rumors swirled that their breakup was acrimonious but King strongly denied the claims.
“Please don’t believe everything you read,” King posted on X in March of that year.
She said she and Warner were “good.”
“Life happens. Forward motion. Godspeed.”
But, in a 2015 interview with US Weekly, King seemed to hint that Warner dumped her on Valentines Day.
She claimed one of her famous exes had ended their relationship with the star on the day.
Shamed actor Cosby, who had his sex assault conviction overturned in 2021, has led the tributes to his former co-star.
He said Warner’s drowning death felt like the murder of his son, Ennis.
“It was shocking,” he told the ABC affiliate WPVI-TV.
We don’t need the rest of the world in our Kool-Aid.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner
You could depend on Malcolm always going to uh the shelter, to learn his lines, to gather his character to come out and be ready,” he said.
“When the news came, it was shocking. And of course, my thoughts went straight to his mother, who worked so hard.
“She was so wonderful with him.”
Beyonce and Jamie Foxx are also among the celebrities who have paid tribute to Warner.
And, award-winning star Viola Davis said she was left speechless.
She referred to Warner by his Cosby Show character name, describing him as a “friend and brother.”
