Luka Modric and Karim Benzema react after beating Liverpool at Anfield

Liverpool absolutely fell apart against Real Madrid on Tuesday night as Karim Benzema and Luka Modric celebrated a thumping 5-2 win on social media.

It looked like the Reds would conjure up a famous Anfield night as Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah quickly put Jurgen Klopp’s men 2-0 up.

The joy ended there though as Vinicius Junior had a moment of brilliance followed by a moment of luck to make it 2-2.

Eder Militao headed Real in front before things got a little ugly for Liverpool.

Karim Benzema’s deflected strike made it 4-2 and the Ballon d’Or winner still found time to add a fifth as Liverpool crumbled.

It’s al one way back for Liverpool now and even with a second leg to come, Real may already have one foot in the last eight.

Brazilian duo Vinicius and Eder Militao are the future for Real but it was two older heads who ran the show at Anfield.

Luka Modric was simply outstanding yet again in the Real midfield, continuing to run the game at the age of 37.

35-year-old Benzema pretty much wrapped the game up the Real and showed why he was Europe’s best in 2022.

Both Modric and Benzema were applauded off the pitch by Liverpool fans, who were able to appreciate the quality of both players despite a heavy defeat.

Modric took to Twitter after the final whistle to tweet ‘Asi gana el Madrid’, which translates to ‘This is how Madric wins’.

Real have become masters of the big comeback and Modric clearly enjoyed his night at Anfield.

Benzema posted on Instagram, writing ‘what a night… very proud of the team, lets go – see you at the Bernabeu’ alongside a photo of him celebrating against Liverpool.

Real fans and players lapped up both messages and Liverpool supporters just have to hope to keep Modric and Benzema a little quieter in Madrid.
