Dean Jones drops Aaron Ramsdale contract claim at Arsenal

Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport that Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is in a situation where he’ll be “looking for a new contract”.

The transfer insider says the Gunners stopper has “absolutely met the bar” in terms of his performances and attitude.

Ramsdale has been outstanding since joining Arsenal in the summer of 2021.

This season, the 24-year-old has kept 13 clean sheets and conceded 32 goals in 33 outings in all competitions.

Ramsdale’s efforts have helped Arsenal top the Premier League table in pursuit of a first title since 2004.

Jones spoke about the England keeper on GiveMeSport, also praising the Gunners’ scouting system for signing him.

“There’s no way I expected him to be as good as he’s turned out to be,” he wrote.

“It’s a masterstroke really to bring him in.

“So full credit to the scouting system and the personality checks that went into finding a good fit for this Arsenal team.

“He’s absolutely met the bar and the standards that were set for the club.

“Now, he’s in a situation where he’ll be looking for a new contract, he’ll be looking to become England’s number one.”

Our view

Ramsdale has been a revelation for Arsenal since his £30million move from Sheffield United in 2021.

When speculation emerged regarding the Gunners’ interest in the 24-year-old, there was criticism from some quarters.

Ramsdale had been relegated with both the Blades and Bournemouth, which led to some concern about him.

In addition, some wondered why Arsenal were willing to spend so much when they already had Bernd Leno.

Luckily, Mikel Arteta and Edu ignored all the noise and brought Ramsdale to the Emirates Stadium.

It didn’t take long for the player to dethrone Leno as Arsenal’s number one.

Now, he is an indispensable player and fan favourite.

Ramsdale is reportedly on £83,000-a-week (Salarysport), so Arsenal should definitely reward him with a payrise.
