Alan Shearer has stated that goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is ‘integral’ to how Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal play out from the back.
The Premier League’s all-time top-scorer added that the goalkeepers of Liverpool and Manchester City have been a key part of their ‘success’ in recent years and now Arsenal have that with Ramsdale.
The England international was purchased for £30 million (Sky Sports) during the summer of 2021 and there were a lot of eyebrows raised.

Mainly because Ramsdale, 24, arrived from then-relegated Sheffield United and it was the second time he had suffered relegation in his career.
As a result, the vibes weren’t all too positive when he was signed, although, no-one is questioning that transfer now.
Shearer was full of praise for what Ramsdale can do, more with his feet, rather than his ‘really important’ saves, as he told Premier League Productions (12/03/23 at 1:40 pm).
“If you look at the success of the clubs over the last few years, whether that’s Manchester City or Liverpool,” said Shearer.
“One of the key factors that they both, certainly now Arsenal, is that they have a keeper that, not only can make really important saves at important times, but he’s such an integral part in the way they play.

“Certainly playing out from the back. The way he can ping it forward another 60 or 70 yards to someone who is running in behind.
“Those two teams have been hugely successful because of their keeper being able to play in the system the manager wants them to do.”

RAMSDALE – ENGLAND’S NUMBER ONE?
That tag currently belongs to Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who has been outstanding for England over the years.
But could it now be all coming to an end given the domestic performances of Ramsdale and Newcastle United’s Nick Pope?
It’s going to be interesting to see if Gareth Southgate does make a change during these forthcoming internationals because the above two now need a chance of some sort.
