Journalist Ben Jacobs has said that while Chelsea even bid for Edson Alvarez with their sights set on a transfer, Liverpool have remained interested in signing him until recently.
Jurgen Klopp’s men and their desperate need to sign a brand-new midfielder has been well-documented this season.
It seems as if Liverpool have considered the transfer of Edson Alvarez, who seemed set to join Chelsea at one point.
What Ben Jacobs said about Liverpool & Chelsea eyeing Edson Alvarez transfer
As mentioned earlier, the Reds’ midfield department has been woeful this campaign.
While ageing players like Jordan Henderson and James Milner have been on the decline, Fabinho has been miles off his usual self, Thiago has largely been injured while youngsters like Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliott are clearly not ready for the highest level.
Taking that into account, it is understandable why Liverpool have been keen on a transfer for Chelsea-linked defensive midfielder Edson Alvarez.

“The insiders I speak to at Liverpool always tell me one important point, that is that you have to have a consistent narrative”, he initially told the LFC Transfer Room Podcast. “That means being honest with your plans. Chelsea haven’t always been consistent, there are a few players out there, Edson Alvarez is one of them, that they had one message one day and then it changed.”
“He’s a player by the way that Liverpool have looked at. Chelsea wanted him, they made a bid, he didn’t turn up to training to force the move, it collapsed and Todd Boehly said that he’d be back for him, and he never came back.”
It is worth noting that both Liverpool and Chelsea could do with a defensive midfielder as one of their main transfer additions like Edson Alvarez next season.
Whether the 25-year-old would be perfect suited to the role may divide opinion as he remains a polarising player.
