KSI

As well as being a jack of all trades, British rapper, Youtuber, and boxer KSI has been known under multiple names – we explore KSI’s real name, what KSI stands for, and why he is called JJ.

KSI began his career on YouTube in 2009, posting gaming videos and comedy skits. He has since become one of the most popular YouTubers in the world, with over 23 million subscribers and billions of views across his channels.

As well as his involvement in the popular YouTube group The Sidemen, which owns a restaurant chain, energy drink, and Vodka brand, KSI has also released multiple top 40 rap songs and albums, and in 2020 he made his professional boxing debut, defeating fellow YouTuber Logan Paul in a highly publicized match.

What is KSI’s real name?

KSI’s real name is Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji. He was born on June 19, 1993, in London to father, Jide Adamulla Olatunji, who hails from Nigeria, and mother Yinka Atinuke, who is from the London borough of Islington.

Olajide is a Yoruba name meaning wealth or success, according to YorubaName. The Yoruba people are one of the three largest ethnic groups of Nigeria and Yoruba is one of the most spoken languages in the country.

One of KSI’s original YouTube channels was called KSIOlajideBT. He once explained in a vlog that he added BT as the username Olajide was taken on FIFA and EA, the game’s creator, offered OlajideBT as an alternative.

What does KSI stand for?

KSI stands for Knowledge, Strength, and Integrity. The name originally came from a “Halo clan” that the Not Over Yet singer was invited to join when he was around 14 years old.

Halo is an Xbox sci-fi combat-themed video game and a clan is an organized group of players that band together. He said that he was invted to join the clan even though he was not good at the game. “I wasn’t very good a Halo, I kind of sucked,” the rapper said.

In 2018, KSI got the words “knowledge” “strength” and integrity” tattooed onto his arms and chest. He filmed the process and uploaded it to YouTube in a vlog titled “I’M SORRY MUM.”

Why is KSI called JJ and what does it stand for?

In the past, KSI was sometimes called JJ, which stands for Jide Junior. KSI’s dad is called Jide and in 2008, the then-novice YouTuber created a FIFA gaming channel called JideJunior.

So the name JJ refers both to KSI himself, literally being Jide Junior, and his old YouTube channel and Internet persona.
