FORMER Today show host Kathie Lee Gifford was hospitalized for a week after she broke her pelvis in two places.
Kathie, 70, was recovering from a hip replacement surgery when she was rushed back to hospital after the TV personality fractured her pelvis.
She told People the “unbelievably painful” injury was her “fault”, adding “I weakened my body.”
The Daytime Emmy Award winner and author further explained that she “just tripped” one day after a book signing in Nashville where she over-exerted herself.
“It didn’t take much, because I was weak in that spot,” Kathie described the impact of the fall.
“And the next thing you know, I am back in the hospital with a fractured pelvis, the front and the back,” she continued.
“That’s more painful than anything I went through with the hip. The pelvis is unbelievably painful. But anyway, here I am.”
Kathie’s latest book, non-fiction title Herod and Mary, was released across the U.S. earlier this month.
She has authored multiple books across genres over the years, including biographical works such as The Rock, the Road and the Rabbi and The Quiet Riot.
Kathie described the fall as a “humbling experience” while explaining her decision to remain in hospital for a week because “I don’t trust myself”.
She admitted it was difficult to come to grips with the fact that her body is changing as she gets older, adding she sees the fall as a sign to “slow down.”
Kathie continued, “I’ve been running my whole life. The Lord is telling me, ‘You’ve planted a gazillion roses. Try smelling them.'”
Kathie has previously described the hip replacement procedure as “one of the most painful situations of my entire life” in a statement to People.
She also revealed the surgery had become necessary due to her active lifestyle.
Kathie recalled her doctor saying, “You climbed mountains, you made movies, you got on stages.
“You never took off your high heels, and you kept going and that’s why you’re going through what you’re going through.”

GOLDEN BACHELORETTE RUMORS
Earlier this year, she returned to the Today show as a guest, along with her daughter Cassidy to promote their show The Baxters.
During their conversation with Hoda, 59, and co-host Jenna Bush Hager, Kathie was asked whether she’d consider signing up for The Golden Bachelorette, a spinoff to The Golden Bachelor.
“We want to apologize for causing drama around The Golden Bachelorette,” Jenna said.
“But, we stand by the fact that we think you would be the best Golden Bachelorette of all time.”
Kathie suggested she had spoken to the show’s producers but no offer had been made at the time the interview was broadcast in March.
PAST RELATIONSHIPS
Kathie has previously been married twice.
She tied the knot with composer Paul Johnson in 1976, and they divorced in 1982.
Four years later, Kathie married American football player and sports commentator Frank Gifford.
They had two grown-up children, son Cody and daughter Cassidy, and stayed together for nearly 30 years until Frank’s death in August 2015.
Writing in her memoir It’s Never Too Late, Kathie said she felt a “deeper desire” for Frank after he cheated on her with another woman.
She also opened up about why she forgave Frank after he “committed adultery” at the Regency Hotel in New York City in 1997.
Explaining how her therapist urged her to “forgive your children’s father” if she couldn’t find it in her heart to forgive her husband – calling it a “revelatory moment.”
“It took my eyes off of me and set them squarely on my children, who were still completely unaware of their father’s unfaithfulness,” she continued.
“My children’s father was a wonderful, loving, gentle, compassionate, generous and sweet man,” Kathie added.
“He was easy to forgive because I knew his heart.”
