In 2003, Benson made her television debut in an episode of the Fox supernatural drama series “Tru Calling.” Over the subsequent years, she appeared in episodes of “The Dead Zone,” “The Evidence,” and “Stargate Atlantis.” Benson had her biggest year on the small screen yet in 2007, when she had guest roles on “Masters of Horror,” “Reaper,” “Supernatural,” “Whistler,” and “Aliens in America.” The next year, she was in the television films “Past Lies” and “The Unquiet,” as well as an episode of “Smallville.” In 2009, Benson was in the Nickelodeon television film “Mr. Troop Mom” and an episode of the CBS limited series “Harper’s Island” before she began her most well-known role, as Second Lieutenant Vanessa James on the Syfy military science-fiction series “Stargate Universe,” the third series in the “Stargate” franchise. Benson made her feature film debut in the 2007 drama “Road to Victory.” After that, she acted in a string of short films, including “Robin, Chuck, and Shirley,” “Scott’s Lands,” and “Everything’s Coming Up Rosie.” In 2013, Benson was in the romantic dramedy “That Burning Feeling,” and in 2014 she both co-wrote and starred in the horror film “Death Do Us Part.” She went on to have a supporting part in the 2015 zombie action film “Dead Rising: Watchtower.” The year after that, Benson was in the direct-to-DVD action film “Interrogation.” In 2017, she lent her voice to the animated musical “My Little Pony: The Movie,” and in 2018 she played the mother of Noah Centineo’s character Peter in the Netflix teen romcom “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” based on the novel of the same name by Jenny Han. Benson’s subsequent credits include the 2022 romantic drama “Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between,” based on the novel by Jennifer E. Smith. It was also released on Netflix.
