John Wick took the action movie genre by storm when the first film exploded onto screens in 2014 but following the events of Chapter 4, fans have been left asking if it’s the last one in the series.

Since the original John Wick movie shot, kicked, stabbed and punched its way into movie theaters almost a decade ago, Keanu Reeves’s character has been an unstoppable killing machine.
However, his fate in the latest installment has called into question the future of the franchise and has left John Wick fans asking if Chapter 4 will be the assassin’s final explosive adventure.
John Wick’s fate in Chapter 4
The final sequence of John Wick: Chapter 4 sees the titular assassin take part in one final duel against Donnie Yen’s Caine, who has been nominated to fight in place of the Marquis Vincent de Gramont (Bill Skarsgård), a high-ranking member of the High Table.
Caine gets the better of Wick, gravely injuring him after hitting him with three rounds.
A triumphant de Gramont asks to execute John personally but Wick, who hadn’t fired his third round, shoots and kills the High Table member.
In doing so, John’s debt to the High Table is absolved but it proves to be too late for Baba Yaga as he succumbs to his wounds and dies.
Is John Wick: Chapter 4 the last one?
John Wick: Chapter 4 is being planned as the final installment “for the moment.”
In August 2020, Lionsgate’s CEO Jon Feltheimer announced that a fifth film was being developed alongside Chapter 4.
It was initially supposed to be filmed back-to-back with the fourth film but in March 2021, those plans were tweaked and production on Chapter 4 went ahead on its own.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in March 2023, director Chad Stahelski said that Chapter 4 would be the last film for a while.
“In our minds, Keanu and I are done for the moment. We’re going to give John Wick a rest,” he said. “I’m sure the studio has a plan. If everyone loves it and it goes kooky, then we’ll take a quiet minute.”
Of course, the biggest obstacle now standing in the way of a fifth John Wick movie is the fact that the character seemingly died at the end of Chapter 4.
If there was to be a fifth film, it would likely mean that John Wick’s death must have been faked.
While it may take some maneuvering to work that out, having John Wick return from the dead to hunt down a new target makes for an appetizing prospect as it would make the hitman known as Baba Yaga an even more terrifying threat than he already is.
Spin-offs are coming
While the future of the main franchise may be up in the air for the time being, there is plenty more to come.
Scheduled to arrive on Peacock in 2023 is a TV series titled The Continental which will center on the hotel that provides safe haven for the network of assassins that John Wick is part of.
On top of that, Ana de Armas is set to star in a spin-off film titled Ballerina that will see her take on the role of a female assassin.
Filming on the project began in November 2022 with Ian McShane and Keanu Reeves reported to be reprising their roles from the main films.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is out now in theaters after releasing on March 24, 2023.
