Joe Cole says Arsenal and Chelsea transfer target, Declan Rice, is the ‘poster boy’ at West Ham United and he will need to put his future ’to bed’ in the summer, as he told ITV Sport (01/03/23 at 7:20 pm).
The 24-year-old has one year left on his contract at West Ham and he, either leaves when the transfer window re-opens, or he signs on the dotted line.
Given that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Graham Potter’s Chelsea are keen on the player, then the feeling is that he will step up a level and head for the exit door.
Arsenal are the Premier League leaders, and by the time the summer comes along, they could be champions of England.
On the other hand, those at Stamford Bridge, who have spent in a crazy manner during the last two windows, are at huge risk of missing out on the top four.
So, surely if Rice leaves the London Stadium then he joins a team in the Champions League, as Joe Cole spoke about his future.
“Every time I talk about Declan Rice, it’s his future,” said Cole. “West Ham are in the Conference League. He is the captain of the club.
“I think, for Declan, he will want to put it all to bed and sort it out in the summer. He has a year left on his contract and it will have to be talked about, at some point.

“I don’t think it’s distracting him. As footballers, when you are on the pitch, that’s your solace. That’s when you can do your thing and calm down.
“At West Ham, he is the poster boy, so he just needs to concentrate and focus.”
WHO SHOULD RICE JOIN?
Chelsea are well and truly stacked with players, and if Rice is to re-join the club after leaving as a youngster, then a fair few faces need to leave, especially in the middle of the park.
So, could the West London club’s current situation be off-putting to Rice? Even though he supported the club as a kid.
Arsenal might just be the right direction for the player because of the young squad Mikel Arteta is building and how they could be champions by the time they get to the negotiating table.
