Leeds now have a golden chance to sign Gerard Deulofeu after hiring Javi Gracia to replace Jesse Marsch.
What’s the story?
Well – according to Fabrizio Romano – a “deal was almost done” for the Spain international to join Spurs in January, although a late injury saw the north Londoners sign Arnaut Danjuma instead.
Now, as Leeds prepare to hand Gracia the reins at Elland Road, they have a fantastic chance to sign Deulofeu in the summer, a player who could become their next Pablo Hernandez – should they manage to avoid relegation.
The Udinese No.10 – who cost the Italian side £14m – enjoyed what was arguably the best spell of his career under Gracia at Watford, and we presume he would jump at the chance to be reunited with the man who made him tick in English football.
Deulofeu made 44 appearances under Gracia, scored 13 goals while also providing six assists.
Like Hernandez – who also originates from Spain – Deulofeu is a superbly talented technician, who has the ability to win games for his side almost singlehandedly.
Among those 13 strikes was a mesmeric effort in the FA Cup semi-final against Wolves, which gave Watford hope as they trailed 2-0 to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
The 28-year-old’s curled effort made it 2-1 late on at Wembley, before Troy Deeney’s 94th minute equaliser allowed Deulofeu the opportunity to make it 3-2 in extra-time and send Watford into the FA Cup final.
Deulofeu also scored the first – and only – Premier League hattrick in Watford history under Gracia.
The pair enjoyed a great time together at Vicarage Road, and if contact was made regarding a potential reunion in Yorkshire, we would presume Leeds have a strong chance of making it happen with Gracia at the helm.
Javi Gracia needs to impress at Leeds
If this reunion is to happen, Gracia will need to impress at Elland Road.

According to The Athletic, the 52-year-old has only been offered a six-month contract until the end of the season for now, with a view to extending those terms should he keep Leeds in the Premier League.
Therefore, if Leeds are to sign Deulofeu and others who Gracia can get firing in English football, they will need to hope the Spaniard keeps them away from the Championship.
