How many DC films is James Gunn

DC Studios CEO James Gunn has responded to critics accusing the director of casting his wife “in every DC project”, so how many of his movies is she in?

It’s no secret that aside from talent, connections are a vital strategy to score jobs in Hollywood. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt starred in A Quiet Place Together, while Jaden Smith made his film debut in The Pursuit Of Happiness with his father Will Smith, as well as After Earth.

Some Twitter users, however, are accusing DC director James Gunn of casting his wife, Jennifer Holland, in all of his films. While it is true that many of Holland’s jobs have been in DC Comics-related projects since dating him in 2015, the director has hit back that he hasn’t controlled every casting.

James Gunn defends wife’s DC film roles

On Wednesday (March 15) the director uploaded a couple selfie whilst on the way to Shazam! Fury Of The Gods premiere, to which a fan slammed: “Stop putting your wife in every DC project.”

Gunn responded one day later, denying that he pulled strings in all her DC roles. “The only DC movie I’ve ever cast my wife in was The Suicide Squad,” he wrote on Twitter. “I had nothing to do with the casting of any other movie – anything else was shot a year or so ago while I was deep in Vol 3. But I know some of you are deeply in need of reasons to hate.”

Vol 3 is a reference to the third installation of Guardians Of The Galaxy, which is scheduled to release on May 5, 2023 Filming took place in November 2021 and wrapped in May 2022.

Holland, 35, and Gunn, 56, met through their mutual friend, actor Michael Rosenbaum, in 2015. They became engaged in February 2022 and tied the knot at a star-studded wedding in September.

How many DC films have Jennifer Holland featured in?

Holland has appeared in four DC films, starting with 2021’s The Suicide Squad as Emilia Harcourt, an A.R.G.U.S agent.

Naturally, she reprised the role in Black Adam, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods, and HBO Max’s Peacemaker. As Gunn said, he had no say in these projects, so Holland’s role could’ve been minimized if bosses wanted.

Her first James Gunn film came in the 2019 superhero horror film, Brightburn. She appeared in a minor role as Ms Espenschied, the protagonist’s school director, meaning she has been featured in five of his movies.

Brightburn marked her first film role in one decade; her last was American Pie Presents: The Book of Love.

Fans have run to defend Jennifer’s acting chops, claiming she was the right person for the jobs.

“She’s a damn good actress and deserves her spots, brother,” one wrote. “She kicked a** physically and emotionally in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. Hollywood has a history of creatives putting their barely talented partners or family members in roles. THIS ain’t one of those situations.”

A second added: “You can cast who you want and your cat even.”
