Alan Shearer was critical of Conor Coady and James Tarkowski for their ‘terrible’ defending during Everton’s 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.
Ian Wright added that it was a ‘very good result’ for Villa and they deserved the three points against the relegation strugglers, as he also admitted that Unai Emery’s men also deserved something from their defeat to Arsenal last week.
On home soil, the Midlands outfit have been conceding for fun, including eight in their last two.

But on the road, they have been as solid as ever, with another clean sheet added to their name.
At Goodison Park, they were helped by Sean Dyche’s goal-shy team, who started with Neal Maupay yesterday, but he only has one goal to his name and it showed.
Nonetheless, this is what both Alan Shearer and Ian Wright made of yesterday’s game, as they told Premier League Productions (25/02/23 at 5:20 pm).
“I think if you look at the reaction of the Everton players, it sort of tells you that they know it was a penalty,” said Shearer. “Watkins sticks it away pretty well. Straight down the middle.
“That gets them the goal and then go on to get another. Everton’s big problem is that they just can’t score goals. They don’t get into positions. A good win for Villa, they knew if they get one, then it was always going to be tough for Everton.

“Buendia there, it was Coady and Tarkowski, it’s terrible defending, from both of them.”
Wright added: “A very good result for Villa. I thought they played well against Arsenal as well. They deserved something. It was always going to be a tough one that one for Everton.”

EMI BUNDIA IS AT IT AGAIN AT GOODISON…
It was Emi Buendia’s header that earned Villa the three points at Everton last season, and once again, he got on the scoresheet, despite not starting the game.
After he was fed the ball by John McGinn into the left channel inside the penalty area, Buendia fronted up Coady, who thought he was going to go onto his right foot and curl in his shot.
But, instead, he duped both centre-backs, Coady in particular, who was left stumbling as the Argentine star whacked the ball home with his left foot.
