West Ham United v Newcastle United - Premier League

Newcastle United forward Joelinton earned praise from Premier League pundit Don Hutchison in their 5-1 win over West Ham United.

The Magpies went into the game eager to secure a fourth consecutive victory in the competition.

Likewise, the Hammers were hoping to build on their 1-0 win over Southampton last time out.

Newcastle didn’t need long to take the lead, opening the scoring at the London Stadium after just six minutes.

Allan Saint-Maximin crossed in for the unmarked Callum Wilson to head home with ease.

Just six minutes later, Joelinton made it two for Newcastle.

The 26-year-old made a run from deep after being found through the middle by Fabian Schar.

Joelinton duly rounded the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into an empty Hammers net.

Although the Brazilian’s effort was flagged, VAR showed he was onside.

‘Too easy’

Hutchinson loved what he saw from Joelinton and Newcastle.

“It’s incredible,” he told the Premier League website.

“It is an easy pass from Schar, just between the centre-backs, and it’s a great finish from Joelinton. It’s great for Newcastle but it’s too easy.

“Eddie Howe thought Newcastle would have to work hard for the win tonight. But West Ham have gifted them a couple of goals.”

A Newcastle error went on to give the Hammers a way back into the game on 37 minutes.

Kurt Zouma scored with a header from close range after Nick Pope tried to punch away a Jarrod Bowen corner.

However, Newcastle went on to restore their two-goal lead shortly after the restart, before adding two more late on.

Some poor defending by Nayef Aguerd enabled Jacob Murphy to claim the ball and square for Wilson to tap home.

In the last 10 minutes, Alexander Isak and Joelinton made the most of more shambolic Hammers defending to add gloss to the scoreline.

The Newcastle substitute made the most of a poor Lukasz Fabianski clearance to loft the ball over the goalkeeper.

Then, Joelinton drove into the hosts’ area and, with plenty of time and space, drilled a shot inside the far post.
