Wallace called into her primetime show Deadline: White House to explain her absence with interim host Alicia Menendez.
The former press secretary to George Bush said she and Schmidt had a baby named Izzy and explained how they kept their little girl a surprise.
“We were able to keep it a secret because I wasn’t pregnant,” she said on the program.
It’s unclear if she adopted the baby or had it through surrogacy.

During the program, Wallace opened up about being a new mom at her age.
“There are pros and cons to being a mom again at 51,” she said.
“You are tired. I was up all night last night and I was like ‘Oh wow, yeah this is what 3:45 am looks like.’
“But it’s a blessing to be focused again on what has always grounded me and that is my beautiful family.”
Wallace and Schmidt, 40, quietly tied the knot in April 2022 at intimate ceremony with close family.
She had been dating the award-winning New York Times investigative reporter since 2019 after they met through her show.
Schmidt was a regular guest on her program and gave commentary on Donald Trump’s presidency, which he closely covered for the Times.
According to insiders, the couple quickly confessed their relationship status to bosses who were understanding.

Schmidt covers Washington with a focus on tracking and explaining high-profile federal investigations, according to his bio on the news site.
This is Wallace’s second marriage as she was previously wed to former diplomat and lawyer Mark Wallace from 2005 to 2019.
Mark held positions in Bush’s White House administration and played a key role working for his legal team.
He served as counsel to the campaign in Florida that led the decisive recount which secured Bush the win against Al Gore.
The two divorced in 2019 after they had been separated for a year.
HAPPY FAMILY
Wallace shared on Deadline the intimate moments the family has shared since she brought Izzy home.
“My son Liam is 11 and was in the hospital and scooped her up in his arms and was calmer than we were at the beginning,” she said.
“He has a knack for the sway and the ‘shh,’ the things you do no matter where you are when you have a baby. I found myself at the bank today swaying without Izzy in my arms.”
She said that her viewers and the show are her other family and that she would “never leave in a moment this dire.”
Wallace plans to take a few months off to be with Izzy and her family.
Deadline White House shared a clip of Wallace’s announcement on X, formerly Twitter, and fans gushed over the news in the reply section.
“Congrats to Nicolle Wallace on her new baby daughter. What a surprise!” one person wrote on X.
“Congratulations Nicolle Wallace! She has a new daughter. Mom is making a better world for you,” another said.
“Thanks for everything, Nicolle.”
Wallace had been missing from the program since November 6.
