Tottenham Hotspur are looking for a new manager after Antonio Conte left Spurs by mutual consent.

The Italian saw his time at N17 come to an end in wake of his controversial post-Southampton press conference.

Plenty of names have been doing the rounds regarding the Tottenham job over the past few weeks.

And few options have elicited as much emotion from Spurs fans as Mauricio Pochettino.

Intriguingly, the prospect of the 51-year-old making an emotional return to Spurs is a realistic option.

Pochettino is currently out of work, so Tottenham wouldn’t have to work compensation out with a club.

In addition, he knows Spurs well, having turned them into Premier League challengers and Champions League finalists.

However, has Daniel Levy since had a change of heart over bringing the Argentine back to N17?

According to Dean Jones, this may have been the case.

The transfer insider has spoken to GiveMeSport about the state of play involving Tottenham, Levy and Pochettino.

“Levy had always fancied bringing Pochettino back,” wrote Jones.

“And that was going to clash eventually with Paratici’s role.

“So it looked like it would be up to the Italian to bring forward names that would make him think otherwise.

“What actually happened recently is that I’m told Levy started to have second thoughts about a Poch return.

“And that’s why he hasn’t rushed into it right now.

“It will be interesting to see how he deals with the situation as this Paratici situation plays out.

“The whole process is looking slightly different to the one we were expecting.”

Too much history between Poch and Spurs?

Pochettino to Tottenham would definitely be a feel-good story.

Spurs are in the doldrums, and so their greatest manager in recent history comes back to save them.

Great in theory, but in reality, there could be some issues.

The first is whether the issues that saw him get the sack in the first place are still there.

Would Pochettino get a big enough budget and control over transfers to actually transform the team?

Also, there’s a risk that there could be over-inflated expectations from his first spell at the club.

Would fans accept one, two or even three transitional seasons under Pochettino, bearing in mind he had them dining from the top tables for so long?

With that in mind, you can understand why Levy might be having a change of heart over the Argentine.

Besides, with Julian Nagelsmann suddenly available after Bayern Munich relieved him of his duties, he could be a better option, not to mention a blank slate.

In other news, Ivan Perisic and Richarlison missed part of Tottenham training today
