The death of two teenagers at Copper Mountain resort in Colorado following a tragic skiing accident has prompted people to look up the meaning of a halfpipe.
Sporting accidents can often be brutal leaving victims with severe injuries and in some instances, can turn out to be fatal. Only a few days ago, the people of North Carolina were shocked to learn about the death of skilled mud rider, Robert Parker, who was reportedly riding an ATV which rolled over him.
In similar tragic circumstances last year, French actor Gaspard Ulliel was killed while skiing. It was also discovered he wasn’t wearing a helmet.
Tributes are pouring in for the teen victims of the recent Copper Mountain ski tragedy, who went to school at Prairie Central High School in Illinois.
What is a halfpipe as teens are killed in Copper Mountain accident?
Halfpipe is a structure with a U-shaped cross-section often used to perform stunts in skateboarding, rollerblading, or skiing. Covered in snow, it has a high-sided ramp on either side.
Reports suggest the two teens from Illinois – 17 and 18 years old were on a spring break vacation when they rode tandem down a halfpipe and launched off a large snowbank at the bottom of the halfpipe.
Explaining the nature of the accident, Summit County Sheriff’s Office said the two boys came down hard on the ice below and suffered blunt-force trauma.
They reportedly rode a single plastic sled, which is apparently not allowed on Cooper Mountain. The accident is said to have occurred after the resort had closed its areas.

Tragic incident leaves community deeply saddened
The Copper Mountain team is deeply affected by the death of the teens, who couldn’t be saved despite immediate medical attention.
Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons said: “Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and friends of the individuals involved in this tragic incident.”
Copper Mountain’s president and general manager, Dustin Lyman, added: “The entire team at Copper Mountain is deeply saddened by this tragic incident. Our most sincere condolences go out to the affected families and friends. We are also thankful to our local emergency responders, for their quick response and the medical assistance provided.”
The official has also requested people to not enter the closed trails and areas while always looking for signs and warnings.
Teenagers were star athletes in school
The victims were reportedly seniors at school and noted for participating in different sports.
Dylan Bazzell was a part of the football and basketball team this year, reportedly named to the Associated Press first-team all-state basketball squad earlier at the beginning of March.
Meanwhile, Drew Fehr also played the same sports, as well as served as a team captain, leading rusher, soccer, and tackler for the IPS champion Hawks. He even earned the all-state mention.
