Chris Sutton has agreed that Tottenham Hotspur should have tried to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus prior to their summer transfer to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
The former striker admitted that he was ‘surprised’ Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City sold the duo to Arsenal during the summer transfer window.
Both Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus have made the world of difference to Mikel Arteta’s side and they are a big reason why they are sitting top of the Premier League table and hold an eight-point lead on the current champions.

Whilst it’s rosy for one club in London, it’s fair to say that dark clouds are forming for Daniel Levy at Hotspur Way – Jamie Redknapp thinks Liverpool and Newcastle will be ‘loving’ the news coming from Spurs.
Spurs fans are frustrated and annoyed following the sacking of Antonio Conte, not because he has gone, but how things are panning out this term.
Chris Sutton was reacting to a Spurs fan who was being critical of chairman Daniel Levy in the transfer market and responded to the supporter when he asked if Tottenham should have been signing players like Zinchenko and Jesus, as he told BBC’s 606.
“Were you disappointed with all of Spurs’ signings?” asked Sutton. “On paper, Bentancur and Kulusevski, aren’t bad signings – that’s not Levy’s fault (some signings flop).
On whether Spurs should be in for players like Zinchenko and Jesus: “Yeah, I think I said it at the start of the season. I was surprised Manchester City let two players of that quality go to Arsenal.

“I don’t think anybody, honestly, expected Arsenal to push for a Premier League title like they have done. But those two players have made a difference, then the improvement of some of the younger players. I get that.
“But we are in the here and now with Spurs. Whatever grief you have with Daniel Levy. I mean Conte’s outburst, that’s a bigger issue.”

ZINCHENKO AND JESUS CHANGE ARSENAL’S MENTALITY
A number of Arsenal players have mentioned that as soon as the multiple title-winning duo arrived at the Emirates, one of the first thing they said is that they should push for the Premier League title.
Even Zinchenko himself made it clear, that when he shared that message across the dressing room, ‘some of them were laughing’, well, they aren’t doing so now.
Also, it has to be noted, even though Spurs finished fourth last season, it was their neighbours who signed the Champions League-quality players and not Tottenham themselves.
