Paul Scholes says he was ‘surprised’ Tottenham Hotspur managerial target Brendan Rodgers was sacked by relegation-threatened Leicester City.
The return of Roy Hodgson to the Premier League at the age of 75 was the end of Brendan Rodgers’ time with the Foxes because they were beaten by a stoppage-time winner at Crystal Palace over the weekend.
That resulted in the Northern Irishman and the struggling Midlands side going their separate ways on Sunday.

Even though Rodgers has just been booted out by a team that has struggled all season long, he is still being tipped for the big jobs, including Gary Neville thinking a possible move to Spurs could happen.
Daniel Levy is looking for a new face after sacking Antonio Conte during the international break, but it seems as though it won’t be Julian Nagelsmann, who could be Chelsea-bound after they sacked Graham Potter.
Either way, everyone is getting sacked all over the shop and Scholes thinks, if Rodgers had stayed at Leicester, then they would have stayed in England’s top-flight, as he told Premier League Productions (02/04/23 at 7:20 pm).
“I am yes (surprised),” said Scholes. “I can half understand because they are panicking. They need to be in the Premier League, with all the riches there are.

“But I don’t think they are better without Brendan Rodgers. I think, if he was still in the job, then he would win those three or four games that they need to win to stay up.”

DOES RODGERS STILL HAVE THE PEDIGREE?
It will be interesting to see how Rodgers is going to be viewed by other Premier League clubs now that he is a free agent.
There have always been question marks over whether he is an elite coach or not, and that cloud still remains.
Could he really have answered that question at the King Power? Probably not, and whilst the last 12 or so months ended badly, at the end of the day, he still got them into Europe and won the FA Cup.
