Oscars 2023 is all the rage lately. As the year’s most revered award ceremony approached, many began talking about it. Many were touched when the 2022 fan-favorite film Pinocchio won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature film. The film won the Oscar night’s first award.

How many Oscars does Guillermo Del Toro have?
The renowned Mexican director has taken home three gold-plated and luminous Oscars so far. His first two were for his 2017 film The Shape Of Water.
Guillermo took home two Academy awards during the 2018 ceremony for the romance fantasy. The awards included Best Director and Best Picture. Additionally, the film won many other Oscars that year for Best Cinematography, Best Orignal Screenplay, Best Production design, and more. Moreover lead actress Sally Hawkins also won the Best Actress award for the film.
The 2023 win is director Guillermo’s third. The Mexican filmmaker and author has been nominated for an Academy Award, a total of seven times so far.

Pinocchio has won Netflix its first Oscar for an animated feature
Those who doubted the potential of Netflix studios would be punching the air right now as Pinocchio (2022) has won the production house their first award for Best Animated Feature.
Other Netflix originals to win an Oscar are the 2020 documentary My Octopus Teacher, 2019’s Marriage Story, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ (2020), and more.
2022’s Pinocchio reimagines Italian author Carlo Collodi’s classic story. The real classic chronicles the adventures of the wooden puppet. Pinocchio’s creator Geppetto wishes he were a real boy and soon a fairy makes his wish come true. But Pinocchio must prove his worth to remain in his human body.
However, Guillermo’s Netflix adaption of the classic tale explores darker themes of the story such as life and death.
A look at director Guillermo’s other works
The director has a long list of impressive titles under his belt. His most famous projects include The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), Pacific Rim (2013), The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014), Crimson Peak (2015), and more recently 2022’s Cabinet of Curiosities.
He has also directed Spanish language films such as Cronos (1993), The Devil’s Backbone (2001), and Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) among others.
