After an agonizing two-year wait, The Mandalorian is finally due to return for season 3 but how many episodes will the new installment have and when will they all be released?
While Star Wars fans have had plenty to keep themselves entertained with over the past few years, with the likes of The Book Of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi and the superb Andor, none of them have quite been able to generate the same amount of hype and anticipation as The Mandalorian.
The series was launched alongside Disney+ all the way back in November 2019 with its second season following a year later in October 2020. Now, after a break of more than two years, The Mandalorian is finally returning for its long-awaited season 3.
The Mandalorian season 3 release date and plot preview
Season 3 of The Mandalorian will be landing on Disney+ on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.
The new installment is set to pick up the tale of Din Djarin after his rather large cameo in The Book Of Boba Fett saw him and Grogu reunite in emotional fashion as the adorable green alien elected to forego his Jedi training in order to be with his newfound Mandalorian father figure.
The galaxy is becoming an increasingly tumultuous place in the upcoming season as the New Republic is forced to contend with the growing threat from Imperial remnants.
However, Mando has more pressing matters at hand as he seeks to atone for removing his helmet to bid Grogu a tearful farewell, meaning that he must journey to the planet of Mandalore itself if he hopes to find redemption.
But after claiming the Darksaber in season 2, Mando has put himself in a complicated position as the legendary weapon is said to be the only thing that can unite the warring Mandalorian clans.

How many episodes in The Mandalorian season 3?
Season 3 of The Mandalorian will consist of eight episodes in total.
The number of chapters in the new season should come as little surprise to veteran fans as each previous installment also had eight episodes apiece.

Work on season 4 has already started
Beyond season 3, the groundwork is already being laid for season 4 with Jon Favreau confirming at Star Wars Celebration in May 2022 that he had already begun writing the fourth season.
By February 2023, as Favreau took part in press events to promote the third installment, he confirmed that writing on season 4 has been completed.
“Season 4? Yeah, I’ve written it already,” Favreau explained when speaking to French outlet, BFMTV. “We have to know where we’re going to tell a fully formed story. We had mapped it out, Dave [Filoni] and I, and then slowly, you just write each episode.
“So I was writing it during post-production because all of it has to feel like a continuation and one full story,” he continued. “Then he’s doing Ahsoka, which I’m producing with him, but he’s the writer-showrunner on that. And so to understand what’s happening on other shows, or even Skeleton Crew, all take place in the same Star Wars time period.”
“There’s a lot more things that we have to keep in mind and stuff that we’ve built up to in previous seasons of The Mandalorian, as well,” he concluded.”

Season 3 of The Mandalorian arrives on Disney+ on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.
