After a hiatus of ten years, KFC‘s iconic item is back on its menu and it is only available for a limited period of time.
The dish comes sans bun, which is replaced by chicken filets, cheese, and strips of bacon. While the Double Down sandwich seems like every KFC lover’s ultimate fantasy, its nutritional values are viewed as concerning by some.
Only recently, consumers of fast food were shocked on learning that a substance called erythritol, which is used as a sweetener in a number of food items and cool drinks, has been linked to stroked and heart attacks.

How many calories does the KFC Double Down sandwich have?
The Double Down sandwich in 2023 reportedly has 950 calories. KFC has not disclosed any other details regarding its nutritional values.
The original Double Down, which was introduced in April 2014 is said to have had 540 calories in addition to 1,380 milligrams of salt.
The bun-less sandwich consists of a 100 per cent white meat filet, a slice of cheese, and two pieces of smoked bacon.

How to get it
Double Down will be available in participating KFC restaurants starting March 6, for a period of four weeks or until the supplies last.
Starting Thursday, March 2, you can sign up on the official site to be one of the 2,014 customers to get early access to the limited edition dish a day early on Sunday.
The original item was a hit among KFC lovers when it was first launched, selling 10 million sandwiches. It has been brought back in 2023 at the fans’ request.
You can have it with buns too
Those who don’t want to get rid of the buns in the sandwich are treated with the new premium Bacon & Cheese Chicken Sandwich.
The variation of Double Down is double-breaded with an extra crispy 100 per cent white meat filet, a slice of cheese, and two pieces of smoked bacon topped with Colonel’s real mayo and pickles.
Meanwhile, the Double Down sandwich can be enjoyed as is or with an order of secret Recipe Fries and a medium drink.
