February 21 was observed as Fat Tuesday, also known as Mardi Gras, which reflects the last night of eating rich food before entering the fast during the holy period. After fulfilling your cravings on Pancake Day, the 40 days of fasting from Ash Wednesday until Good Friday is believed to represent Jesus Christ’s hardship for the same number of days.
Therefore, Christians give up on a number of factors they consider pleasurable during Lent to honor Christ. But, what about Ash Wednesday? Are there any dietary restrictions?

How long are you supposed to fast on Ash Wednesday?
It is mandatory to observe fast on Ash Wednesday for the entire day.
Followers between the age of 18 and 59 are allowed one full meal or two small meals throughout the day.
But, meat cannot be included in your diet on Ash Wednesday, so you need to complete your meals with fresh fruits and vegetables. You can either have them raw in the form of a salad or cook them as per your preference.
Meanwhile, any churchgoer above 14 years is expected to refrain from consuming meat on this holy day.

Dairy products aren’t restricted
Meat and fish are the only restricted food for Ash Wednesday fast. You’re allowed to use dairy products and eggs are permitted too.
If you find yourself craving something more than fruits and vegetables, there is no dearth of options as you can always include a cheese toast and kale salad in your full meal.
Similarly, a cheesy egg sandwich or delicious lasagna cups can also fill your tummy and fulfill your cravings.
When is Good Friday in 2023?
Good Friday is observed on April 7 in 2023.
Similar to Ash Wednesday, Catholics are thought to abstain from food on Good Friday by observing a fast. The dietary restrictions are the same as you aren’t allowed to use meat.
The Friday preceding Easter Sunday is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, and Easter Friday.
Although Good Friday is not a federal holiday in the U.S. some countries and states may observe the holiday.
