Anjelica Huston has revealed she has secretly battled cancer.
The Oscar winning actress has spoken for the first time about her private health struggle, explaining that she was diagnosed in 2019.
At the time, Anjelica decided to treat her illness in private, but has gone public with her ordeal for the first time and revealed she is now “in the clear”.
Speaking to People magazine, she said: “I managed to survive it, and I’m proud of myself.”
While she has chosen to keep the type of cancer she battled private, she admitted the news was devastating.
“It’s not something that came lightly. It came as a big shock, but it made me conscious of what I shouldn’t do, of places I shouldn’t go,” she explained.
“One of those places was taking life too seriously. So now when the opportunity arises, I laugh, and I try not to make a big deal out of things.”
Fortunately, Anjelica is now four years free of cancer.
“I’m at the four-year mark, and that means so much to me,” she revealed. “It’s a fantastic thing. I’m very proud of myself, and I’ve been very lucky. My doctors have been wonderful.”
She added that she is still monitored by her medical team, however, and continues to have regular scans.
Anjelica was born into acting royalty as her dad was director John Huston, and her granddad was actor Walter Huston.
Her career began in modelling in the 1970s, before she moved into acting.
Anjelica won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 1985 for the movie, Prizzi’s Honor.
She is also best known for such films as Crimes and Misdemeanors, The Witches and Manhattan Murder Mystery.
Anjelica also famously played the iconic role of Morticia in the Addams Family movies.
The multi-talented performer has also worked extensively behind the camera, following in her father’s footsteps as a director.
She has helmed such flicks as Agnes Browne, and worked with Wes Anderson on The Royal Tenenbaums.
Anjelica’s acting career also had a resurgence in recent years as she starred in the smash hit John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum,
Off-screen, she has also garnered lots of attention for her romantic life too.
Anjelica famously dated Jack Nicholson on and off from 1973 until 1990.
She has also been in a relationship with actor Ryan O’ Neal, photographer David Bailey and Prince Albert of Monaco.
