Thierry Henry has lauded Newcastle United transfer target Goncalo Ramos for his Champions League display as Benfica eased past Club Brugge on Tuesday night.
The Premier League legend added that Ramos is ‘on fire’ after he scored twice and assisted during Benfica’s demolition job of the Belgium side.
The Portuguese giants secured a 7-1 win on aggregate, including 5-1 in the second leg, which resulted in Scott Parker getting the sack as Brugge manager.

Ramos was a key player behind all of this because, over the two legs, he scored two and assisted two.
The 21-year-old showcased himself to the world when he struck a hat-trick for Portugal during the knockout stages of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar – after coming into the starting XI for, none other than, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Whilst he has watched the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Darwin Nunez being sold in recent times, he has remained put and Henry claimed that the player needs to do more to secure that transfer, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (07/03/23 at 10:40 pm).
“It never was a game really (Benfica v Club Brugge),” said Henry. “But Joao Mario giving the ball to Ramos and that’s what he does. This guy is on fire and he is from the academy. We spoke about the players that they sold. He is going to be, I think, the next one (to be sold).
On if he’s surprised Ramos is still at Benfica and nobody taking him in January: “He has to do more,” added Henry. “It was a surprise what he did at the World Cup.

“I think if he carries on like that in the Champions League and they win the league, then he can make a case.”

NEWCASTLE UNITED LINKED WITH RAMOS
Callum Wilson and club-record signing Alexander Isak are the main men up top for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.
But could there be a change on the cards in the summer?
Someone like Isak can play across the front three, but with Wilson hitting his 30s and being injury-prone, then another forward might be needed, especially with the Champions League-chasing side becoming goal-shy of late.
That’s where someone like Ramos comes into the affray because the Portugal international has been linked with the Magpies and he would fit their model of signing young stars to build for the future.
